Over 100 children, teens, and family members walked the field of Old Cougar Stadium on Friday for a chance to get out of the house for a night of childhood games and fun.
The City of Casa Grande Parks and Recreation celebrated it's Fourth Annual Get Up and Get out Day of Playtopia on Friday, September 23 at Carr McNatt park by the Old Cougar Stadium. The Casa Grande Play Task Force once again created a fun-filled event featuring games including disc golf, hula hoops, horse shoes, badminton, twister, archery, tricycle racing, and more.
The reason for Playtopia is for Casa Grande to promote playing outside and being active whether it just in your front yard or in the city’s parks. It also encourages kids to step away from the televisions, video games, and computer screens. Playtopia persuades parents to get involved with their children by creating activities outdoors.
This year, 13 organizations participated in the event including Casa Grande Head Start, Casa Grande Lions Club, Casa Grande Youth Commission, Casa Grande Public Library, Sahuaro Girl Scouts, AmeriPsych, Sun Life Family Health Center, ABOTT Nutrition, Liberty Tax Service, U of A Cooperative Extension, and Nutrition 4 Life, who presented free Zumba demonstrations.
Kids who participated in 12 events received a free Frisbee and had their names entered into a raffle to win prizes, which included a bicycle.
The City of Casa Grande is recognized as a Playful City USA by KABOOM!, a non-profit organization that honors cities and towns that make play a priority and keep children healthy. The City of Casa Grande Parks and Recreation has created numerous events to encourage children and their families to find unique ways of playing and staying active.
